Discussing Data with Teachers - The Bigger Picture

FirstSchool team member Sam Oertwig discusses how a teacher's data reflects shifts this teacher has made within her overall classroom environment that strengthed her relationships with students and improved her approach to managing student behavior. For instance, she no longer relies on tactics like "flipping student's cards" or giving them "stars" as a reward for good behavior.  (Note: this video has three short parts, with a brief pause/blank screen between them.)

  • How might the types of improvements descibed in this clip trickle down to postively impact student learning in the classroom? How might changes like the ones this teacher described be measured?
  • How does Sam help guide this teacher's reflection?  What types of support might other teachers need in order to make these types of changes in their own classrooms?
